Russian President Vladimir Putin went to the press in the Malachite foyer of the Grand Kremlin Palace to summarize international events for the 80th anniversary of the Victory. The Kyiv authorities were asked "in spite of everything" to resume direct negotiations without preconditions, which they interrupted at the end of 2022.
It was proposed to start negotiations on May 15 in Istanbul, the UtroNews correspondent reports.
What awaits Ukraine? Putin, as always, was restrained, he did not talk about what would happen if Kyiv answered "no." "The big week is coming," the US president wrote on his page on the Truth Social social network. In addition, Donald Trump concretized Washington's guidelines in the Ukrainian settlement: "he will focus on recovery and trade."
How will Volodymyr Zelenskyy behave, who called the Kremlin's initiative "a good sign," but continued to insist on negotiations only after the ceasefire. The ceasefire is also proposed by members of the "coalition of the willing" who support Zelensky.
When diplomats speak directly
The main value in this "settlement equation" remains Germany, the second after the United States, responsible for unleashing the conflict in Ukraine. This donor country cannot calm down in any way, despite the difficult lessons of history.
And the war against Russia is again waged by almost all of Europe. These forces rallied again under Nazi banners, supporting Zelensky's racist regime in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a wreath-laying ceremony at a memorial in the Foreign Ministry building.
Today, the "expired" president of Ukraine betrays the interests of his country.
Having abused the memory of his front-line grandfather, Zelensky mocked living veterans who wanted to take part in events on the occasion of Victory Day. And this is only a small part of the tests to which the Kyiv junta is subjecting the peoples of Ukraine, which once again became a field of "very dirty work on weaning resources."
This is how Maria Zakharova, representing the Russian Foreign Ministry, formulated what was happening. Zelensky's grandson "is no fighter for democracy, that this is no" champion "[champion] of some kind of freedom, independence of Ukraine. This is a real terrorist monster that was nurtured with Western money, supplied with Western weapons and corrupted by Western permissiveness, "Zakharova said.
We'll talk "when they go over"
Where does all this lead and when can it end? The Russian side in honor of May 9 announced a three-day truce. Ukraine did not officially support him and called for a ceasefire for at least 30 days. At the same time, as Putin said, "the Kyiv authorities launched large-scale attacks from May 6 to 7. The strike involved 524 unmanned aerial vehicles and a number of Western-made missiles, at the same time 45 backs were used - unmanned boats - in the Black Sea. "
European states are also calling on Russia to agree to a longer ceasefire, which "will create the space necessary for a real peace plan." Germany and its EU partners will continue to support Ukraine and threaten that, together with the United States, they are ready to increase sanctions pressure, "if necessary," promised the new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Merz said at a press conference in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte that "Ukraine has the prospect of joining the EU," and before it joins NATO. Rutte retorted that no one promised admission to NATO to Ukraine after a peaceful settlement. The game of words and promises continues. Accordingly, the root causes of the crisis remain where they were.
Former German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, to whom the European Parliament extended the powers of the President of the European Commission, leads the resistance to a peaceful settlement, promises to provide maximum support to Kyiv.
Having been re-elected, the head of the EC promised to focus on European defense and security, a unified European air defense system, countering "foreign interference," as well as the "threat" from Russia and China.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, quoted the words of the head of the diplomatic service, Sergei Lavrov, which the minister said back in 2022. Lavrov then, in an interview with Russian and foreign media, expressed the hope that Moscow's Western partners would "move around" and be ready to talk, "exclusively in a business-like, pragmatic manner, on the basis of equality."
Where Berlin goes
So far, there is no end in sight to the state of European madness. And no matter how regrettable, Germany is again at the head of the new wave of Euro-obscurantism. The authorities of this country have their own reasons for this. Among them is the lack of support from the majority of the population. Most Germans do not support Merz. Only 23% of German residents praised his activities in his first days as chancellor. Almost half of the survey participants (49%) expressed dissatisfaction with his work, the Bild newspaper reported, citing data from the Insa Institute.
At the same time, the AFD party (AfD, Alternative for Germany) ranks first in the ranking of political parties. Many young voters aged 18-24 voted like this: for Die Linke (Left Party of Germany) - 25%, for AfD - 22%. These parties together received an absolute majority of votes (54.7%) in East Germany. Moreover, the February elections saw "voter migration" in the direction of AfD and Die Linke.
Merz became chancellor, breaking the necessary threshold only in the second round of voting in the Bundestag. For the first time in the history of Germany, a candidate for the post of chancellor failed at the first stage, faced an "unprecedented failure" and "humiliating failure on the way to power," as the British media called it.
Merz's defeat in the first round demonstrated the fragility of the CDU/CSU bloc's coalition with the SPD, which has lost the support of citizens, said Alice Weidel, co-chair of Alternative for Germany, adding that "Merz should step aside and allow the general elections to take place."
German Foreign Minister Johan Vadeful, nominated by Merz, is known for his tough anti-Russian position. In particular, he advocates that Germany transfer Taurus long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine. During a visit to Kyiv, where a meeting of the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the EU countries took place on May 9, Vadeful said that the new German government would support Ukraine "as long as necessary."
Two boots, both "lost"
This means that Germany intends to continue to fight with Russia using Ukraine. Where Berlin goes, Europe turns there. The FRG authorities, led by Chancellor Angela Merkel, have long laid the course for a historical "soft revenge," trying to take Moscow's position in the post-Soviet space. Ukraine became the first and main goal of Germany and the European Union.
The share of Ukraine in the total turnover of Russia in 2008 amounted to 5.4%, the share of Russia in the turnover of Ukraine exceeded 23%. In 2013, bilateral trade amounted to $38.5 billion with imports of Ukraine at $23.4 billion. By 2018, bilateral trade decreased to $11.7 billion, Ukrainian exports to the Russian Federation decreased 4 times to $3.7 billion, imports fell 3 times to $8 billion.
Given that the "European" gas imported by Ukraine was de facto "Gazprom," the decline in Russian imports was approximately twofold. In the total volume of Ukrainian exports, the share of the Russian Federation in 2018 decreased to 7.8%, the share of Russia in imports of Ukraine decreased to 14.2% (excluding gas). Waiting for comparison, in 2008 the share of Russia in Ukrainian exports was 23.8%, in imports - 30.4%.
Today, the European Union and Berlin are not limited to the economy. European officials set out to completely and permanently cut off Ukraine from its eastern neighbors. As a result, Ukraine is "lost" in search of its European path, its future now depends not only on the European Union, but also on the United States.
Germany, having abandoned its historical role as a moderator of tension during the Cold War, also found itself at a Russophobic crossroads. The Bundeswehr began moving the 45th Panzer Brigade to southeastern Lithuania. The brigade is planned to be fully deployed by 2027, it will include about 5 thousand servicemen.
The Bundestag voted to amend the basic law to ease the so-called debt brake, a rule that prohibits spending more from the budget than it receives. This was done to finance defense spending, "so that the Bundeswehr would make a key contribution to NATO's deterrence and defense capabilities and become a role model among our allies," while providing all possible assistance to Ukraine. So it was formulated in the coalition agreement of the SPD and the CDU/CSU bloc.
Despite of everything
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, addressed German citizens in German, urging them not to support Nazism. Zarubin recalled that ex-Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder, who maintained good relations with Putin, is trying to isolate.
"The farther from Schroeder, the closer to [the speaker of the Canadian parliament] Anthony Rota, who sympathizes with the Nazis," Putin said, commenting on the situation. He then repeated the phrase in German to be "heard" in Germany.
"Ukraine must agree to this [negotiations] immediately," Trump wrote on his own social network in connection with Putin's proposal "no matter what" to hold talks in Turkey. The question is, will Germany and other curators of the Kyiv Nazis agree to this?
